Noah and the Ark – Hope Choir (Hope for Sutton Project)
On Saturday the 8th of June at 3pm we welcome our community to join us for the world premier of Noah and the Ark! As part of the Hope for Sutton Project, St James Church secured funding to deliver intergenerational music work in local schools. notejuste was commissioned to present a performance of this story with local schoolchildren.
Andrew Clayton of notejuste writes, “When I sat down to re-read the story of Noah, several things jumped out at me immediately. There are parallels in this story to other biblical events and it can be used to illustrate many different aspects of our faith – trusting in God to guide us; relying on God to provide for our needs; using our skills in his service; and not least the unfailing nature of God’s promises to us.”
Revd Daniel Ramble, Vicar of St James and founder of the Hope for Sutton Project, comments, “The story of Noah’s Ark is great imagery for our present world, with the rise of populist leaders across various democracies. It is a sign of hope that those animals who could have attacked, bitten or even killed each other within a few hours were able to co-exist for over a year. We as civilised human beings can learn a great lesson from this story about reconciliation (not just coexistence) by thriving in mutual care, love and hope. We are delighted that Andrew Clayton and Rachel Cooper have focused on the story of Noah in their Hope Choir creative arts project.”
Andrew Clayton concludes, “I’m very excited to see how well the children perform with us. I’m a little nervous about making a rainbow appear in church but I’ve done the maths and I think we can do it. Most of all though, I’m looking forward to presenting this wonderful story from the Bible in an accessible way, in God’s house.”
